Ford’s SecuriCode system is a handy door-mounted keypad that lets you get into your car using just a numeric code — no key needed. Whether you just bought a Ford or want to get more from this feature, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about using SecuriCode.
SecuriCode Overview
The Ford SecuriCode keypad is on your driver’s side door. It’s a simple five-button setup that comes programmed with a unique five-digit code, and you can add up to five personal codes. Unlike your key fob, it doesn’t need batteries.
You’ll find this keyless entry system on many older Fords. It doesn’t come standard on as many models as it used to, but it’s still available as an option that dealers can install.
Why Use SecuriCode?
SecuriCode is a solid backup that works when you need access without your key. It’s also perfect for quickly getting something from your car or giving easy access to family and friends. As long as your car battery isn’t dead, this system will work and provide keyless entry security.
Locating the Factory-Set Code
Every SecuriCode-equipped Ford has a unique factory door code. Depending on your vehicle’s model year and the type of key you have, you can access it in different ways.
If your car is from model year 2023 or earlier, look for the factory code on your owner’s wallet card. This is the easiest way to find your code.
You can also access your code using both of your car keys. If you have a traditional key, insert one of them into the ignition and turn it to the on position without starting the car. After waiting four seconds, remove the key and repeat this process with your second key. Your factory code should then appear on the information display.
If you have a key fob with push-button start, you’ll follow a similar procedure. Put your first key in the intelligent key backup slot with buttons facing down. Press START/STOP once, wait four seconds, and press the button again. Swap in your second key and repeat the steps. The code will appear on your driver information display.
Programming a Personal Code
It’s easy to set a personal door code on your Ford. First, enter the factory code. Then, press the 1•2 button and enter your five-digit personal code, keeping in mind that you’ve got five seconds between pressing numbers. Hit 1•2 again to save it as your first code. Your doors will lock and unlock to confirm it worked.
Adding and Deleting Additional User Codes
Ford’s keypad lets you create up to five personal entry codes. For your second code, do the same steps mentioned above, except use the 3•4 button instead of 1•2. You can continue adding codes in the same way by using the next button down. If you have Ford SYNC, you may also be able to access and change your personal codes from your infotainment system’s screen.
To delete your personal codes, enter the factory code, and then press and release the 1•2 button. Next, hold the 1•2 button for two seconds. All of your personal codes should be removed, and only the factory code will work.
Using SecuriCode for Everyday Actions
Using SecuriCode is easy. To unlock your Ford’s driver’s door with the keypad, enter your factory or personal code. If you want to unlock all of the doors, enter your code and hit 3•4 within five seconds.
To lock all the doors, close the driver’s door, and then press and hold 7•8 and 9•0 together. If you need to access the trunk, enter your code and press 5•6.
SecuriCode vs. Key Fob vs. FordPass
Each one gives you a way to lock and unlock your Ford, but when all three are used together, you’ll maximize your convenience. You can use SecuriCode or your key fob to unlock your car in person. The FordPass app allows you to lock and unlock your car from anywhere with an internet connection. You’ll also get other perks, such as vehicle management and GPS tracking.
SecuriCode Troubleshooting
If your Ford SecuriCode keypad isn’t working, here are a few things to keep in mind. Common problems include unresponsive buttons, forgotten codes, and codes that don’t work. If the buttons aren’t lighting up or seem dim, your car battery might be low, or you might need service. Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten your personal codes, as you can use the factory code to set up new ones. If your buttons seem sticky or don’t press smoothly, wipe the keypad with a damp cloth.
If your keypad’s lights are flashing, that means you entered the wrong code too many times, and the keypad will be disabled for one minute. You can unlock the door with your key, or you can try again after the keypad reactivates.
