You just got in a car accident. Now what?

  1. First, make sure everyone is alright and pull to a safe location off the road. Contact any emergency personal or the police if required.
  2. Next contact your insurance provider to setup a claim. They will direct you to one of their direct repair facilities or claim offices. Don't forget you have the right to use any shop you choose.
  3. After your insurance provider completes the claim you will receive an estimate and a check for the cost or repairs. Be sure to ask about your deductible and make sure to save the check.
  4. Now it is time to choose a shop to complete the repairs!

Repair Process:

  1. Vehicle walk around and check-in - Welcome to Jim Burke Ford Collision Care. The first step in the repair process is the walk around. One of the estimators will review the damages with you and inspect your vehicle. This is a great time to ask any questions and familiarize yourself with our shop.
  2. Blueprint - They key to a successful repair is a thorough tear down and complete analysis of the damages. Before we begin repairs or order parts our blueprint team tears down the vehicle and completely assess the damage. Our goal is to order all the parts one time and minimize the need for supplemental repairs. This improves repair quality and the timeliness of the repairs.
  3. Order Parts - Now that the blueprint is complete parts are ordered and any supplemental damage is submitted for approval. The estimator will contact you to review the findings and get authorization to order parts.
  4. Mirror Matching - Once parts arrive they are mirror patched to the damaged parts and inspected for damages. The vehicle is reviewed one last time and put in line green tagged for repairs to begin.
  5. Body work -  Our ASE Certified technicians begin the body work on your vehicle. Once all the metal work is complete and the new parts are installed the vehicle is sent to the paint department.
  6. Paint - The vehicle is now de-trimmed and all the body panels are repaired. The paint department sprays primer on the repaired panels and begins to sand and prep the vehicles. Before going into the paint booth each vehicle is masked and the color is matched using a variety of tools including paint chip cards, a computerized vin decoder, and a camera designed to analyze and find a paint mix that matches your OEM finish.
  7. Reassembly - If necessary the vehicles are polished and then returned to the body technicians for reassembly. Once the vehicle is put back together any final mechanical work is completed such as alignments, engine light diagnosis, and ac services.
  8. Detail and QC - The final step in the process is to clean the vehicles and complete a quality check. If the vehicle is inspected and no flaws are found it is ready for delivery!

Common Questions:

Do I have to use Aftermarket or used parts?
Depending on your insurance policy you may be able to request only OEM parts be used to repair your vehicle. Contact your insurance provider to find out.

Can I use any repair facility I choose?
Many insurance companies will direct you to specific shops. These direct repair facilities work directly with the insurance company and often have automated
payment processes. If you are directed to one of these shops you have the right to use any shop you choose.

What is a supplement?
Supplemental damage is additional repairs or broken parts that where not found during when the insurance adjuster wrote the initial claim.

How long will my vehicle be in the shop?
Typically it takes three days to order and receive the parts required to repair the vehicle. The average shop can complete 3.5 to 5.0 hrs of body work per day. Therefore a repair with parts and 20 hrs of labor will be in the shop for at least 7 days. That is three days waiting for parts and 4 days of actual repair time.
